Comics, and fanboys, and anime, oh my!

Yesterday I registered for a 1 day pass to San Diego Comic-Con 2009, and only 7 months in advance! Even though I lived in San Diego county for 3 years, I never attended a Comic-Con. I've watched countless hours of coverage on tv and excitedly read about screenings and swag, so I grabbed my chance as soon as single day registration was open. The only fan convention I've ever been to was a Star Trek convention in Phoenix when I was 13, so I am eagerly looking forward to the experience.
If anyone is going to be there on July 25, 2009, let me know and we'll geek out.

You oughtta be in movies, kid.

Yoinked from Jen's blog, *A Tale of 2 Monkeys*, I've posted in the sidebar a list of the movies on AFI's 100 Years...100 Movies 10th Anniversary list (2007). I'll be crossing them off as I see them. AFI's campus is actually just down Los Feliz Blvd. from my apartment; I pass them on the way to the 101. This is a good simple goal that should also add a little culture. Thank god for Netflix. Some of these I think I have seen when I was younger, but I'm not going to count it if I can't remember actually watching it.

A bang and a jolt.

No, it wasn't a one night stand. I just felt the latest earthquake. Oddly enough, I heard it a second before I felt it. For the 3 years I lived in San Diego county there was nothing. Now 7 months in LA and there are 2!

To Infinity and Bed, Bath and Beyond.

I went to Bed, Bath and Beyond the other day looking for sheets. Even though there is one immediately across the street from work, I hadn't visited this one yet. The thing is, whenever I go there, I always forget they also sell kitchen stuff and then I'm pleasantly surprised when I stumble upon it. It's not like it's called Bed, Bath, Beyond and Kitchen Stuff. Anyway, I always enjoy looking at all the kitchen stuff, but I never buy any because a) My kitchen isn't that big (especially the new apartment) and b) I don't have a use for lots of it.
While I was browsing the kitchen implements and what-not, I found this:
It's a Rachael Ray brand garbage bowl. I have watched many episodes of 30 Minute Meals and I do understand the idea and use of a garbage bowl, and selling one that matches hers is fun, but it was also priced at $15. I think that's kinda pricey for something you throw your crap in (figuratively I hope). I have a feeling that it's meant to more of a conversation piece than anything; BB&B was also selling plain white plastic bowls of the same size for $5. The color/pattern looked exactly like when you mix salsa and cottage cheese: kind of a salmon pink with black, red and yellow flecks.

Also found at BB&B:

A banana hammock! And not the euphemistic kind.

PS - The garbage bowl is made from melamine. Mmm . . . tainted milk.

Happy MMIX!

Well, we made it to 2009. 2008 was a big year; a lot of stuff happened, both for good and for bad. I hope everyone had a safe holiday season and that you at least got some gifts, regardless of your observance type. Also happy birthday to those of you who have January birthdays, or else!
I don't have much going on right now, just getting back into the swing of work. I'll post some pictures from the New Year's party at Jen & Mike's house. There are soon to be more pics of Christmas in Prescott and New Year's in Phoenix up on my Flickr page http://www.flickr.com/photos/bfurlong
